Carpenter
First and second-fix carpentry — doors, floors, trim, framing, and structural timber.
About carpenter
Carpenters work the structural and finishing timber on a building — door frames and doors, skirting and architrave, stairs, floors, roof timbers, partitions, and built-ins. First-fix is the structural side (roofs, partitions, floors); second-fix is the visible side (doors, skirting, mouldings). Good carpenters do both.
When you might need this
- A door needs hanging or replacing
- Skirting, architrave, or mouldings need fitting after decorating
- Stairs need building, repairing, or replacing
- A loft conversion or extension needs structural timber work
